How does the evaporator work in the car air conditioning

The evaporator in the car air conditioning system is a key component that converts low-temperature, low-pressure liquid refrigerant into a gaseous state. This process absorbs heat, which cools the evaporator and the surrounding air, thereby reducing the temperature inside the vehicle.

The refrigerant flows into the evaporator through the expansion valve, also known as the throttling valve, which is located at the entrance of the evaporator. The expansion valve serves as the dividing point between the high-pressure and low-pressure sides of the refrigerant system. Its function is to throttle and decompress the high-pressure liquid refrigerant from the storage dryer, regulating and controlling the amount of liquid refrigerant entering the evaporator. This decompression results in the refrigerant expanding and its temperature and pressure dropping significantly, causing it to appear as a mist or tiny liquid droplets within the evaporator.

The refrigerant, in this misty state, is easily vaporized as it passes through the evaporator. During this vaporization process, the refrigerant absorbs a large amount of heat from the surrounding air. The air is then forced by the air conditioning fan to flow over the surface of the evaporator, where the heat is transferred to the refrigerant within the evaporator, causing the liquid refrigerant to absorb heat and vaporize.

The evaporator is essentially a heat exchanger, designed to efficiently transfer heat from the air inside the vehicle to the refrigerant. Additionally, the evaporator also serves to dehumidify the air by absorbing moisture, which is then condensed and expelled outside the vehicle. This dehumidification process helps prevent fogging on the car windows.

The evaporator in the car air conditioning system works by converting low-pressure refrigerant into a gaseous state, absorbing heat from the air inside the vehicle, and dehumidifying the air to provide a cooler and more comfortable environment for the occupants.
